Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a good candidate?
- Teeth whitening is not for you if you’re allergic to peroxide or glycerin.
- If you have diabetes, heart conditions, pregnant or breastfeeding please consult with your doctor first.
- Any existing mouth sores may feel temporary irritation. If you usually suffer from cold sores or canker sores feel free to take your prescribed medications beforehand.
- Whitening only works on natural teeth. It may clean your composite or veneer, but they do not whiten like natural teeth.
- For ages 14 and older.
What should I do to prepare?
- DON’T brush your teeth the morning of your treatment. Brush with water, but not with toothpaste as it will put a protective coating over your teeth, blocking the light’s effects.
- DON’T eat 2 hours before and be prepared to not eat 2 hours after your service.
- DO drink lots of water before and after! This helps with sensitivity and continuing the whitening process.
- DO bring headphones to listen to music or a podcast while solutions process.
What should I expect during the treatment?
- Plan for about 2 hours start-to-finish to help prep gums against sensitivity, (3) back-to-back 20-minute brightening light treatments, and fantastic before & after photos.
- Be honest with your technician about any discomfort you are experiencing. Positioning the bed, moving the light, or tingling gums are all very adjustable.
And after?
- Avoid eating for 2 hours post treatment.
- Avoid dark foods and beverages for 24 hours. Say “no” to red wine, coffee, tea, soda tomato sauce, dark vegetables, red meat, etc.. Say “yes” to white wine, clear beverages, chicken, pork, rice, potatoes, cheese, etc…
- For 48 hours, brush gently, avoiding the gums. Any sensitivities usually dissipate after 24hrs. Take pain relievers as necessary.
- Drink more water, watch your teeth get even brighter.
